Supernatural Summer 2007 Sizzled with Excitement and Worry
Spring 2007 was brutal to many of us TV drama fans. Especially for those who were hooked on the best of The CW’s evening lineup. For different reasons, two of my favorite CW shows, Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls were canceled. Alas. Supernatural, though often rumored to be on the block, still stands.
Fans buzzed about on the forums wondering if new developments would ruin our cherised Supernatural. New female characters, and the potential that they would OneTreeHillify or ScoobyDooize the show, worried many. It worried me a bit.
Back in July, however, perennial leaker of TV news, good and bad, Ausiello came to our rescue and spoke with series creator Erik Kripke about Season 3 fan angst. According to Kripke, Katie Cassidy and Lauren Cohan will protray new characters Ruby and Bela, but they will be recurring roles, not regulars. From what he said, I believe they will bring some interesting character and plot developments to the series. I’m fascinated by Bela’s interest in making money from the stories’ magical objects and indifference to their potential to aid mankind. I think this, together with Ruby’s edgy, crazed demon-hunting, will spice up the show.

So, fear not, fellow Supernatural fans! The CW is not forcing Supernatural into a live-action cartoon, or into a “who’s sleeping with whom” teen drama.
