U.S. Special Forces Give Veterans Day Honor to Supernatural Actors
Last weekend, Special Forces soldier Master Sergeant Kevin Wise attended Creation Entertainment’s “Salute to Supernatural, Smallville and Buffy/Angel” in Chicago. On Sunday, Veterans’ Day, he joined Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles on stage to present them each with a thank you letter from General David H. Petraeus, Commander of the Multi-National Force in Iraq, as well as an honorary Special Forces coin from his unit. Wise also announced that Supernatural Season One and Season Two are the most requested DVDs among our armed forces personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan.
According to Wise, each of the five active Special Forces Groups has its own coin. Wise is a part of the 12-member Special Forces Unit ODA 045 or “Team Texas.” These coins are given to soldiers who become Green Berets. Civilians are rarely given a coin.
Ackles and Padalecki were very touched by the gesture, and presented Wise with a shooting script, signed by the Supernatural cast and crew.
According to Wise, Warner Brothers Entertainment, Inc. and Kripke Entertainment, Inc. are going to send 3,000 copies of the DVDs to soldiers stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
One letter from a soldier said that the brothers’ demon-hunting on Supernatural helps relieve the stress of the war and reminds them of home.
Given the keen interaction of two brothers who have such great sibling chemistry, and who drive around in a classic ‘67 Impala, it’s easy to see how this would remind our soldiers of home.
Keep up the good work, demon-fighting soldiers of Supernatural and peace-keeping soldiers of the U.S. Armed Forces. All our best to all of you.

Ufff, I don’t know what to say… I DON’T like SN being involved in Iraq/Afganistan ilegal war…
I don’t think it is any honor or anything similar, much better it would be if all the soldiers are there could come back at their homes and see SN at home, don’t you agree?
That Kevin Wise is/was not a Special Forces soldier! He is a fake, plain and simple.
His actions have attracted attention of many real Special Forces soldiers (myself included). Hopefully the scumbag will rot in jail thanks to the Stolen Valor Act.

That’s one against the war, and one against Mr. Wise.
I still think it’s a testament to the show that it provides that kind of entertainment to people who deserve some escapism more than any of us. No matter the motivations of the leaders who deployed them, any of them who doesn’t do anything illegal or immoral, and performs his or her duties with a clear conscience, is a hero.
I’ve found more of this talk about Mr. Wise in comments on other blogs. I find the charge of fraud very curious, yet unsubstantiated in these forums.
I hope, beyond some comments in the blogosphere, that someone knows the truth, and is acting on it appropropriately –or not, as the case may be. I’ve seen a lot of ad hominem statements about Mr. Wise and his build. Unfortunately, the internet is an easy place to shoot spitballs globally, then retreat into anonymity, for no reason other than because people can.
