Bobby is walking through a house, flashlight in hand, searching. A shrieking woman attacks him. Suddenly, we see Bobby lying asleep in a motel room. A maid walks in, and talks to Bobby. She tries, but can’t wake Bobby from his sleep.

[Doobie Brothers - Without Love] Sam is sitting in a bar. Dean comes in and chides him for sitting around, drinking whiskey in the afternoon. He asks what’s going on. Sam says he tried. Tried what? To save Dean. He’s starting to think that even Ruby can’t stop it. Dean sits and orders his own whiskey. Sam questions Dean, saying he can’t be saved, because he doesn’t want to be. Dean’s phone rings. He answers as “Mr. Sniderson”, and it’s obviously bad news.

In Pittsburgh, a doctor is telling the boys that Bobby seems perfectly healthy… He’s just in a coma. They don’t have any idea why, so they don’t know how to treat him. He just went to sleep, and doesn’t won’t wake up.

The boys go to Bobby’s motel room, discussing why he would have been in Pittsburgh. They have no idea, and look for clues to what he was doing, and why he might be comatose. Sam finds Bobby’s bulleting board hanging behind his clothes, in the closet. There’s a flyer about a plant called Silene Capensis, and an obituary for a university neurologist, named Dr. Gregg, who fell asleep and just never woke up. They deduce that Bobby was looking into the death, when the person –or thing- responsible made Bobby the next target.

Dean goes to Gregg’s office, posing as a detective, and questions his graduate assistant. The GA tells Dean that she didn’t know about Dr. Gregg’s experiments, until she was cleaning out his files. Dean claims she could be in trouble, unless she hands over all of his research.

Dean visits Jeremy, who participated in a sleep study with Gregg. Jeremy offers Dean a beer, and he accepts. He tells Dean that he had a bike accident as a kid, hit his head, and never had a dream after that… until he visited Dr. Gregg. Gregg gave him a yellow tea concotion, that put him right to sleep. He had a dream, but it was too much like a bad acid trip, so he never went back, because it scared him.

At the hospital, Sam and Dean discuss the Bobby’s situation. Sam tells Dean of the information he found out about the plant in the flyer, African Dream Root (Silene Capensis). It has been used for centuries by shaman and witch doctors, and lets people dreamwalk, that is, enter and interact with other people in their dreams. So, they could help, or they could go Freddy Krueger on their victims.

We see Bobby’s dream. He’s stuck in a nightmare, with some unseen thing menacing him. He cowers against a door.
Talking in the hospital corridor about how to help, Dean says, normally, they would call Bobby to find out what to do. How, though, do they get some? “Crap! Bela.” Dean says he’ll call Bela to get some.

Sam, alone in the motel, answers a knock at the door. Bela enters the room, in a trench coat. She seductively peels her coat off, wearing nothing but a negligee underneath. She flirts with Sam, and they end up on the bed. Bela ecstatically calls out, “Sam! Sam! Sam!” Sam awakens to Dean’s call, “Sam!” Dean asks Sam who he was dreaming about, but Sam is very coy, and embarassed. Dean says he contacted Bela. “Bela? What’s she… say?”, asked Sam, very nervously.

There’s a knock, and, of course, it’s Bela. Sam is nervous around her. Dean acts surprised, saying she turned him down. She has the African Dream Root, and she’s doing them a favor, but for Bobby’s sake, though. She tells of how Bobby saved her once, in Flagstaff, when she messed up and got into trouble.
Dean and Bela argue, because she wants to dreamwalk with them, and Dean refuse, and she storms out. Sam nervously squeeks and spurts, “Nice to… seeing… you… Bela!”

The boys mix up an elixer, including some of Bobby’s hair and the Dream Root. They don’t feel anything, then, suddenly, Sam notices that it’s raining. Dean goes to the window, and asks when it started raining upside down. They’re in Bobby’s house, inside Bobby’s dream, apparently. They look around, and Dean calls out for Bobby. Sam, insistently, goes outside to look around. He exits to a bright, sunny, bird-chirping day. The house is bright blue. Sam, though, cannot get back into the house, but from inside, where Dean is, it also looks sunny through the windows. Dean hears weird noises, then a voice. It’s Bobby, hiding behind a door. Bobby asks how they found him. He doesn’t know what Dean’s talking about, “Dream Root.” Bobby thinks it’s all real. A woman with puncture wounds walks ominously toward them. Bobby tells Dean that it’s his wife!

We see Sam and Dean lying in their beds. Sam is walking through a beautiful landscape. Bobby’s wife asks why he did it. He didn’t want to, but she was possessed, and didn’t know what he knows now.
Jeremy shows up in the dream, and knocks Sam down. He claims that Bobby came after him. He says Sam’s an insect, but he, himself, is a god.

Dean finally convinces Bobby that he’s dreaming, and begs him to wake up. Jeremy swings at Sam, saying, “Sweet dreams.” Suddenly, all three of them wake up. Bobby thanks Dean for getting him out, that he would have been dead, if not for Dean.

Bobby tells them about Jeremy Frost, that he has a 160 IQ. Dad took a baseball bat to the kid’s head. Jeremy offered Bobby a beer, before he knew who he was. Dean admits that he accepted a beer from Jeremy, too. Now, they know, Jeremy can get either of them, if they fall asleep. The boys are driving around in the Impala looking for Jeremy. Dean is very tweaked from no sleep, and loads of caffeine. Bela is doing Tarot with Bobby. Bobby asks Bela why she’s helping. Bela is surprised that he doesn’t remember Flagstaff. “Oh, yeah. Flagstaff.”

Dean pulls the car over, and insists on taking a nap. Sam resists but, eventually agrees, plucking some hair, so he can dreamwalk with him.

[Dream a Little Dream of Me - Mama Cass] Lisa has a picnic set for Dean, and wants him to join her. “Dean, I love you.” Suddenly, she’s gone, Jeremy is lurking in the woods –of Dean’s dream. They give chase, but can’t find him. Dean is suddenly in a weird, forest-muraled hallway. Sam is still outside. Dean walks down the hallway. The door at the end opens on its own. Dean enters what looks like their motel room. He thinks Jeremy is sitting at the desk, playing with the lamp. When he calls out, though, the guy stands up and turns… It’s Dean. [puzzled much?]

Dean is looking at himself. “We need to talk.” Dean remains cocky toward Dream Dean, “I get it. I get it. I’m my own worst nightmare. That it?” Dean confronts Dream Dean, saying he’s in control. Dream Dean isn’t going anywhere, though.

Sam wakes up, but it’s not Dean sleeping next to him. It’s Jeremy, who smacks Sam and knocks him out of the car. Jeremy tells Sam that Dr. Gregg gave him the stuff, but, then he took it away. Suddenly, Sam is tied to the ground, and Jeremy gloats of how powerful he is.

Dream Dean confronts Dean about what is original about him. “You’re going to Hell, and you won’t do a thing to stop it.” “You are nothin’.” He questions whether Dean even has an original thought. Everything, the jacket, the car, the Classic Rock. It’s all Dad’s. Dean just has “take care of Sam.” Dream Dean strikes a nerve, when he says Dad didn’t really care for Dean. He left him to watch Sam for days at a time.

Dean attacks Dream Dean, striking him with the Colt, “I don’t deserve what he put on me, and I don’t deserve to go to Hell!” Dean shoots Dream Dean. Dream Dean opens his eyes –his Demon Eyes, “You can’t escape me.”
Jeremy tells Sam that he and Dean are never waking up. Sam, though, counters that he, too, took the Dream Root. Suddenly, Jeremy’s father is calling for him from the woods. Jeremy is taken in by the dream. While he’s distracted, Sam gets up and strikes Jeremy, hard! Jeremy dies in the dream.

Suddenly, both Sam and Dean wake up, in the car, sweating.

Bobby and Sam are talking about Sam’s dreamwalking experience. Bobby asks if it had anything to do with Sam’s “psychic stuff”.

Bobby and Sam walk into the motel room. Dean is trying to call Bela, but she’s nowhere to be found. Bobby wonders why she helped them. Dean says it’s because you saved her life –that thing in Flagstaff. Bobby says he never saved her. He just sold her an amulet, and gave her a good deal. He tells the boys, “You better check your pockets… not literally.” “The Colt!” She stole the Colt from the motel safe.

Sam asks Dean about his dream. Dean lies, saying he was looking for Sam. He doesn’t tell him about his becoming a demon revelation. “Sam, I’ve been doing some thinking. The thing is… I don’t want to die. I don’t want to go to Hell.” “We’ll find a way to save you.” “Okay. Good.”

Dean sees the image of “what [he's] gonna become”, from the dream, as the episode closes.

This was a very good and revealing episode. We finally got to seen Dean admit he wants to be saved , basically. Looks like Sam may be crushing on Bela, in his subconscious LOL, oh that was funny. Then we have the back story for why Bobby hunts. A truly priceless episode.

My favorite scene was the dream Sam had about Bela…it was sexy and funny all the way . I’am glad that they are letting Jared do comedy scenes on Supernatural this season…because based on the DVD behind the scenes and on interviews and fans meeting him the guy is extremely funny. I hope his next movie is like a comedy with Ashton Kuetcher.
