Ellen Harvelle Not Likely Back on Supernatural This Season
Despite spoilers to the contrary (see Sera Gamble interview), Samantha Ferris’ blog reports that Ellen Harvelle will not likely return, this season. Apparently, the offer that the producers gave her could “cost her money and work”. I can only speculate that she means that the time that they would need her, for just a few minutes, in one episode would have paid her considerably less than the work she could do in the time that the shooting would keep her away from other work. I imagine having to travel to Vancouver to shoot a few minutes of footage would be hard for most people. She must have other things going on.
She speculates that the word will be out, tomorrow (Friday, 7 March), so it’s not a done “no-deal”, yet. But it doesn’t look good.
I’m disappointed. She’s a strong character that fits well in the Supernatural universe. It’s too bad they couldn’t have used her more, this season.

I’m tremendously sorry to read this.
For all the push to insert females on the show whether or not the fanbase LIKES either the characters or the actors (and the very good Alona Tal got a very rough character/introduction deal before the season in which TPTB said damn the fanbase opinion, full steam ahead with the Young’n'Jiggly Factor), there is one female character with the ability to hold her own with either Winchester — and she’s played by an actress who should be up there every chance possible.
Show, make it worth Samantha’s while. Ellen is that good a character, and while she’s not the college-ager Dawn O is relentlessly pushing to get the young males she wants for the demographics in, Sam’s got something better: she can ACT and her character kicks butt right out of the park along with the great Bobby S.
Ellen is a tremendously-overlooked character with wonderful, unused potential. I hope they have the sense to bring her back when the Demon War starts up in earnest because she’s needed to help run the human side back in the trenches while Dean goes out to do frontline battle or take the fight to Hell while he’s there anyway and Sam does whatever The Kripke decides is HIS function next year (BTW, people, it’s “Eric” Kripke, so please fix the Category).
Heart, guts and formidable enough to rattle a Winchester — this is the kind of woman I love to see on SPN; even the guest stars are mostly Spring Break-age.
Come on, Show: Samantha Rocks (and no, I don’t know her) and I want to see her more often!

come on now. she has to be in supernatural more. she is such an amazing character to have. she is a strong and independant character. she could save the boys’ lives at some point when u think all hope is lost. come on!!! i love her. she has to stay on supernatural!!

I’m disappointed Ms. Ferris might not be back on Supernatural this season or, from her disgruntled vibe, ever. In every interview I’ve read about Ferris, she seems angry that her character hasn’t been nurtured as much as Bobbie’s, and seems angry about the introductions of Bella and Ruby this season. While I agree Ferris’ Ellen Harvelle is a much more superior character to Bella, the industry is a fickle one, using a recurring character one season, not using you the next. I only hope we’ll see Eleen Harvelle during season 4, and that Ferris will agree to resume the character.

Thats truely a shame! Ellen is a stronger female charchterand it a shame she has been replaced by one stong female charchter and one that is not so strong, talent wise! Is it Beauty over acting ability? I hope maybe we will see Ferris return in the 4th season

For all the talk that Supernatural wouldn’t become like the shallow industry that Hollywood is and even making fun of it ….in ”Hollywood Babylon”, Eric Kripke has fallen into the hollywood trap. He got rid of John Winchester played by the very goodlooking Jeffery Dean Morgan …who could have uplifted ratings to the series by pulling in his loyal Grey’s Anatomy fans, and he allowed the CW network to bring in to 20 something year old actressess in Katie Cassidy…who is a weak actress and Lauren Cohan who is better but not liked as a bad villian who in the future might become a good girl ? Give me a break! I DON’T BLAME Samantha Ferris one bit…and to any fan who complains about her coming or not coming back ….put a sock in it. She is loyal but SPN and crew isn’t. She can’t just seat home and spend her life waiting for the call to be on SPN again. She should have been in season 3 from the beginning. Thank GOD Bobby was. The 2 new regular girls don’t even add up to one talented Sam Ferris….so shame on you Kripke for becoming what you made fun of in Hollywood Babylon…a paid puppet who lets the low class network with the poor budget money control the series.

True Ozzie she cant seat around and do nothing , but it is a shame that some of the really good characters get the boot and it was not a good decision on Erics part to add Katie Cassidy, shes not a very convincing actress but Lauren Lohen is okay!

Ellen is my favorite female character i don^t like Katie Cassidy she^s not a good actress for play Ruby i like so much more Lauren Cohan!!!!! Ellen is one of the best charactes in Supernatural! Erikc man what are you doing…???? Samanta Ferris has to come back!!!! Please!!!!!!!!

Once again I agree with you guys! I realize that Eric is a busy man and he is trying to better the show but I think hes going the wrong way about it! I think he needs to hire cast members with more acting abilities not just for their looks not to say anything about Jensen,Jared,Jim,Lauren ! Their all talented in their own ways! We will miss Ms.Ferris!

If Samantha Ferris wanted to come back as Ellen she would have plain and simple. Fact of the matter is she didn’t care enough about the role to come back.
You know if JDM wanted to come back he would in a heartbeat. ;) No matter how much money or time is he on the show. Fact is he loves the show, cast and crew.

That news was a bad news when it came out… not sure we’ll ever know the true deal issues behind all this. For sure enough, we’ll know things from Sam’s side, probably on her blog or at Eyecon.
I really hope that if things are busted for this year, we’ll get a chance to have her back in S4, even if it makes less and less sense to bring her back after this long. I still can’t understand why they haven’t called her back sooner… hope we get some answers from MrK at the LA convention.
Oh and btw… Sam lives in Vancouver, so the travelling there part isn’t really part of the problems. ;)

@Lizz: I didn’t notice, though, on her site, where her other work is. I know there is a lot of production in Vancouver, but, as busy as she is, I assumed she travels –LA, Toronto. Sometimes local places call me about performing on dates when I’m going to be out of town. Sometimes those out of town dates are too good to pass up for a more modest date close to home.

Ellen come back….!!!!!!! The only female caracther… so far… that actually like to the fans and she will not be in this great season that i personal think is the best even that is so short^!!! I can^t waith 4 L.A convention!^_^ What will happen???
