Supernatural Spoiler #2: 3.16 – No Rest For The Wicked

Episode 3.16 – No Rest For The Wicked
Airdate: 15 May 2008

Writer: Eric Kripke
Director: Kim Manners

Note the different title from the previous spoiler.

This spoiler is more spoilery than usual, so check it out beyond the jump, if you dare…

  • It’s the last 30 hours before Dean’s contract is up.
  • Lilith holds the contract!
  • Sam, Dean, and Bobby search for Lilith.
  • They find out Lilith is in New Harmony, Indiana. [I knew it!]
  • Against Dean’s protests, Sam summons Ruby. How? I don’t know.
  • Ruby warns that they aren’t ready for Lilith.
  • Guess what. They don’t care what Ruby says.
  • The boys steal Ruby’s enchanted, demon-killing knife, and make tracks to New Harmony, Indiana.
  • It’s a fight to the death –who’s death? Dean, Sam, and Bobby take on Lilith and her army of demons in Indiana.

I smell trouble, which starts with “T”, and rhymes with “New Harmon-ee”, sort of. But, that spells TROUBLE! What do you think about this finale? What will happen? Who is going to die? Why do they have to die? How is it that they could avoid death? How badass are Lilith and her army, anyway? How the heck are they going to fight Lilith. Can Lilith do an Australian accent? “That’s not a knife.”

I think I heard that Dean goes to HEll and Sam tries to get Dean back! Confused? I am! Theres no way they could kill him completely off, Dean becomes a Demon probably! to kill either Sam or Dean off it would badly hurt Supernatural and it would be thier down fall

Well, we know there won’t be a S4 of Sam driving around without Dean, so it’ll be interesting and VERY nail-biting if Dean goes to hell. Because, #1 – HE GOES TO HELL! And #2 – How will Sam and Bobby get him back? I’m resigned to having no nails for the next half year.

I just saw it in a news colum and like you I am totally confused, the storyline does not make any sense! I agree how would Sam and Bobby save Dean and bring him back? I guess time will tell all!

I dont think Dean is going and if he does its going to hurt the show badly! As far as i am concerned Jensen is the best actor on the show not to say that Jared is not but it wont survive without both of them! Supernatural Rocks and I hope it continues!

kayla – According to a Kripke interview I read at TV Guide, Bela probably won’t be around in S4. The fans didn’t like her, and because of the strike, Kripke & Co. weren’t able to develop her character. Her profession introduces a different angle to the supernatural world, but it isn’t relevant to the guys’ story. (Unlike Ruby, whose character is directly relevant to Sam and Dean’s ongoing story.) Being a pain in the guys’ butts isn’t enough reason to keep Bela around, especially considering that the reaction from fans wasn’t positive.

oh ok but that doesnt really help the fans that do like her but asshe collects relics she could be handy in the story if the writer’s manage her charactor in time

Thoughts on the S3 finale….or….How Dean’s amulet saves him.

The amulet that Dean wears is a Tibetan thogchag. Said to have fallen from the sky therefore divine. They were frequently used and worn by healers, spirit-mediums and magicians; the shamans of Tibet. Shamans are chosen by the spirits at birth, In Sam’s season 2 finale dream, the yellow-eyed demon shows Sam what exactly happened when his mother died. Mary recognizes the demon, leading to the assumption that she knew who is was, perhaps when he originally came for Dean and was thwarted. It‘s unlikely that Mary Rumpelstiltskined Dean for demonic assistance (to capture the heart of John???) but not totally out of the question considering we know very little of their parent’s early life. But I digress…Back to shamnistic mythology….

Shaman’s undergo a death and rebirth of sorts usually in their 20’s, commonly referred to as being “struck down“. The striking down of a shaman is to “dismember” them as a person and to have them reborn into something else. There are two ways of being struck. The first is the shaman’s sickness and the second is lightning or in Dean‘s case, hellfire. In theory, the thogchag could protect dean from the finality of the “pit” and allow him to return a more powerful hunter than he was. This may be permitted due to the fact that Dean will need to save Sam from Lilith and her demon’s as was forewarned by the trickster in his reference to Sam as “Travis Bickle in a dress”; a direct reference and warning of the possibility of Sam becoming that which he abhors. It is reasonable to assume that Dean would return stronger as it directly correlates to Joseph Campbell’s “Hero’s Journey”; acknowledged by Eric Kripke as an important influence to the Supernatural narrative story arc. It also reinforces the theory that the narrative arc has always been first and foremost Dean’s story.

That would be a good theory and I for one would like the see this come about instead of the demon theory

Jj, i love the intense and detailed thought and research you have done into this theory and i must say that i couldnt see a way for this to all end well with sam and dean and his deal, but now after reading what you have posted, i see no better way. “Give Jj a cigar” i wish you would post this everywhere. on any and all boards, threads, promos, articles, any and everything every where to do with Supernatural. i bet that if you did, there would be a huge positive reaction from the fans and hopefully if the Kripke sees that, which i think he would if you did that, then it could actually come to pass in the show. in return making all of the fans happy. i read alot of material concerning Supernatural, like whats to come, what do you think, you name it i read it, so i think its safe to say that i have read many diiferent ideas about the season 3 finale possibilities. i personally, considered some kind of rumpelstiltskin deal behind deans existense, and that would completely suck if they used that to explain how mary knew the YED not to mention it would be a very weak storyline! i guess what i am trying to say is that there are alot of really weak and just plain dumb ideas out there that i would hate to see and your idea posted here is the first idea that i would actually LIKE and WANT to BUY!!!!!! this is not only the first genuine idea i have read but it is also rich with substance, valuble mytharc (which is obviously important to the show) but is believable and that is the most important thing to the fans and to the creator but first and foremost the fans. because from what i gather, alona tal and lauren cohen being perfect examples of this, the FANS WILL BE HEARD!!! but that is something else altogether that i wont address on here. so, i really like your theory and i would love to see that play out on Supernatural.

however, heres something to think about……………. i do see one problem with this theory but i dont think its something that cant be solved. in the episode AVSNC, if you remember, the necklace was given to dean from sammy but was intended for john and was bought by bobby. given that, there would have to be a really good explaination as to how your theory could be applied to dean being rightfully intitled to shamanistic mytharc abbilities or rights.

I can’t wait to find out what will happen, I think it will be a great season finaly.

An explanation to how Dean received John’s amulet ….or…chaos theory and predestination

Bobby gave the thogchag to Sam to give to John to protect him as thogchags are considered to be protective amulets. Fate, if you believe in that sort of thing, I prefer destiny myself, allowed Sam to pass the amulet to Dean while John was occupied elsewhere. Thus, giving Dean the power to overcome his contract. Consider this….if Sam had been able to give John the amulet instead of Dean, would that have in fact saved John from the “pit”; as it will ultimately save Dean, and saved John and eventually Dean by effect? If so, isn’t the fact that John is gone, Dean’s fault by default? Ohhhhhh don’t you just love a good conundrum? Just what Dean needs, one more reason to be wracked with guilt for his dad’s death and now he’s also responsible for the possibility of Sam going DS.

PS: As for posting everywhere…….Not even Campbell’s “Hero” has enough time for that, but at least the folks here get a taste of what might have been. :O)

this is to “hunter” I’m with you but don’t you have any of the episodes from season 1-2? if you do you could watch them and pretend like its thursday every day it’ll make time go faster in the week and here is a little sudgestion record the episodes off CW that’s how I get by!

As for the rest of you I love the show to death and have a hunch that Dean won’t die although I do have this other feeling that he will I’m scared, but heres how I see it if and this is a very, very, very big ass if! Dean dies he’ll come back as a deamon and kill that little brat for revenge!
In the end he can’t and probably won’t die because if he dies the sarcasum and the random jokes would be gone and without him Sam will do the same thing he did when the trixster killed Dean you remember? he didn’t talk to Bobby or eat or sleep, he practicly did nothing and he looked like he was going to go darkside in his own free will!!!!!!!!!!!

SAM AND DEAN ROCK MY WORLD AND SO DO BOTH JENSEN AND JARED PADALECKI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

to end this If dean dies he’s going down swining just like he said in Jus in Bello when that little brat came in
he’s right the boyz going down kicking and screaming or whatever you could call it

    Long live Sam and Dean
    (SDS) SAVE DEAN’S SOUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

A lot of what Jj said is great but there were a few holes. First it’s been stated that next season there be a lot about the Demon war, and learning about there mom’s past. Secondly Dean i doubt is a rumplestlitskin type story. YED said there are other generations and i beleive a number is even mentioned to how many years. Which would rule out dean due to his and sam age being so close.

I think Sam powers will come back, i think they were always there but he was able to ignore it and forget once YED went down. I think dean will die and thus light a fire in Sam which will then rage will bring powers back (wither that is good or bad).

But that amulet saves dean (maybe takes some time for the ressurction to occur) this time Sam darkness starts to cloud his head.. and Up to the new Dean to pull him back… and he’s stronger as well.

So u can have 2 strong brothers fighting the demons.

Then at the series finale season 5.. i see one of them sacrificing themselves for the other.. unsure how it going to play out.

Eric said (5 season story) so 2 years left hopefully

For all u worry warts they aren’t killing dean off from the show. Even if he dies.. they know they need both and both are on board for the finish of the show from my knowledge.

Ryan , you have a nice theory to! Time will only tell what happens but I am sure it will be great like always! Sam and Dean rock and theres no way one brother can do it without the other! Correct! What do you think?

*I dont know if this has been posted somewhere else…but I wanted to share the pain…*

    Kripke says:
And then about the finale, “No Rest for the Wicked,” I assume Jensen Ackles’ character dies and that’s the last we’ll see of him on the show?
“Yes, Jensen wanted to focus on movies, and he wouldn’t give me the 25 percent salary kickback I demanded, so he’s leaving the series. Chad Michael Murray is joining the cast to replace him, and next year will be like that season on Dukes of Hazzard where it was Vance and Coy instead of Bo and Luke. Everything’s gonna be a little bit off, but it’ll be good…I think you’ll like it.”

LIKE IT?? Come on! IT’s totally the end….at that point who THE HELL CARES about it with out the freaking WONDER TWINS…Moulder and Scully…Jerk and Bitch…share in my pain…

Unfortenatly its looking like Dean is going to die but with any luck maybe he will be resurrected as a new and more powerful Dean and a stronger hunter! Will see its not like they let Jensen go! He will be there until the end which maybe Season 5

I like the amulet theory! But what’s so significant about New Harmony, Indiana? It sounds vaguely familiar, have the boys been there before? If so, I can’t remember. I wikied it cause you now got me curious. Some weird religion built the village and…..my eyes lit up at this point….it was rumoured they worked with alchemy!

    Is that possibly relevant?

  29. May 11th, 2008 | 1:42 pm

Supernatural is nothing w/O dean… he is the best sam is great to but dean is mOre entertaining to watch lol i lOve Supernatural nO matter wut happens… but ii lOve dean even mOre lmao

Can anyone tell me where all this “amulet” talk has come about? I think that it will be difficult for Dean NOT to die- if he doesn’t then there will have to one hell of a good escape plan… which is often hard to pull off without just creating new rules etc…

  31.   Andrea
    May 12th, 2008 | 12:38 pm

The amulet that dean wears around his neck that Sam gave him is to protect him it was thier fathers, whether it has any value of saving his life Ireally cant say! Time will only tell what happens

    May 12th, 2008 | 2:32 pm

I don’t think Dean will die, don’t ask me how he won’t I’m just saying where there is a will there is a way and for Dean there is a major way!
