Supernatural creator Eric Kripke delivered some bad news in an interview with TV Guide. Despite great admiration for Katie Cassidy, and a desire to bring her back in Season 4, the slumping value of the U.S. dollar has made it impossible to bring Ruby back from Hell.

Kripke said that Katie was great for the show. Despite this, and despite having the same budget as last year, producing the show in Canada where the U.S. Dollar is weak means making some hard decisions.

In order to balance the testosterone levels of the otherwise boy-heavy cast, Kripke plans to return to more transient female characters, that will come and go. The beginning of Season 4 will mean a change in the direction of the show, with Sam alone, and new hurdles, worldly and personal, to overcome. Kripke says they have also come up with innovative and “unexpected” ways to bring in, and dispose of, new characters.

So, we await a new season, with new surprises. It still sounds scary, though, doesn’t it?

In No Rest for the Wicked Clip 1, Sam (Jared Padalecki) is assuring Dean that he’s not going to go to Hell. When Dean looks at Sam, he gets a spooky glimpse of Sam’s face distorting into some demonic form. So, let the creep fest begin…

In No Rest for the Wicked Clip 2, Dean tells off Ruby, and tells Sam that she’s trying to trick him. Ruby is adamant that she can help Sam use his psychic, demon powers to destroy Lilith, and save Dean. Dean punches her, and the real action begins!

So, grab your lucky charms and rub, “Please, don’t be a cliffhanger. Please, don’t be a cliffhanger…”

Asylum takes place in just over one week, 9-11 May 2008, so pack your passport, and your tiny bottles of shampoo. This is going to be a great show. The current list of Supernatural stars and musicians slated to appear includes A.J. Buckley, Katie Cassidy, Lauren Cohan, Sterling K. Brown, Jim Beaver, Samantha Ferris, Chad Lindberg, Jason Manns, and Steve Carlson.

According to IMDB, though, it looks like the film is to hit screens in the States 19 September 2008. That’s a bit of a wait, but looks to be worth it. I’ll work on getting some more stuff about this movie.

Supernatural’s new demon in residence, Katie Cassidy (Ruby) has been cast as Lucy Ewing in the upcoming Dallas movie.

One of the newest in a decade and a half long string of classic tv goes big screen, teams Katie Cassidy up with Julie Benz, of Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame, as Sue Ellen.

Apparently, as reported in The NY Post, last month, the film’s development has hit severe growing pains. It began, according to The Post, when focus groups held by 20th Century Fox, last year, caused the studio to veer into parody territory, and away from strictly dramatic homage land. From there, the Texas boot began kicking: John Travolta was dropped as J.R. Ewing, Jennifer Lopez as Sue Ellen, Shirley MacLaine as Miss Ellie, and Luke Wilson as Bobby Ewing.

If those are all true for the reasons given, I think someone has watched too few decent comedies from the past decade. Travolta was fantastic in Hairspray, Shirley MacLaine could be a great funny Miss Ellie, and Luke Wilson… please! Is someone saying that they don’t believe any of these people are funny? Luke Wilson was great in the tv-to-movie-remake Charlie’s Angels.

Oh, well. Alas! Wherefore art thou, intelligent Fox Exec? What do you think? Does this make any sense? Should they? Will they even?

Ok. Ok. Please sit on your hands –or whatever- if you’re still loathe to consider Bela and Ruby’s roles in this year’s Supernatural arc. This tale is not pretty. In many ways, though, this is not an unfamiliar story. As someone who performs in pubs, I’ve watched countless underage patrons escorted in shame from their tables right in front of the stage. Their woeful cries for understanding are desperate, and rely on the belief that, somehow, there must be a way for it to be morally right for them to be there –drinking. The lies about their ages, and about the identification that is so commonly “forgotten” or “in the distant car”, are sad, but nearly inevitable.

And so, now, enter Katie Cassidy. Our beloved, sometimes suspected, new demon watching Sam’s back, has been arrested for underage drinking in Tucson. Cassidy, less than one month from her 21st birthday, was riding in a car driven by 19 year old Caleb Wilson. An officer witnessed Wilson make an improper right turn into a parking lot, then followed to make a stop. Pulling into a parking space, Wilson struck the rear bumper of the unoccupied vehicle parked in the adjacent space. He told the officer that he had not been drinking, and was there to purchase cigarettes.

Another officer spoke to Katie Cassidy, and reported her as “clumsy and slow”, evidently under the influence of alcohol.

I harbor no ill will toward Miss Cassidy, but offer the ribbing that I would offer any friend, roommate, or fellow bar patron, who found her- or him-self in such a situation. This is a serious situation, and an all too common peril of youth. Eventually, we hope, we all grow out of it, and can look back and laugh at our youthful silliness. I offer this, in hopes of speeding up the process.

Katie Cassidy did apologize profusely for her lying, and for knowing better about underage drinking. I hope, as I’m sure many of you do, that she will deal with her situation gracefully, and seek help before she joins the long list of celebrities more infamous that famous. Given his own history, unfortunately fed by his own father’s alcohol-fueled demon, her father has a huge opportunity. This is a good time for David Cassidy to make the biggest and most important comeback of his life. Reaching out to his daughter, and making a poignant, heartfelt, personal statement about alcohol abuse would make him my new hero.
