After all of last summer’s teeth gnashing, and snarling, and bitter worry over Supernatural’s new women, Season 3 is complete. Ruby and Bela have come –and gone, thanks to Lilith.

For the past week, we’ve polled our readers on who they liked best –Ruby, Bela, or Lilith. The results: Ruby is soundly trouncing Bela and Lilith. Currently, with 96 votes, Ruby has 57.

I have to admit, I agree. I began the season, fully thinking, “Bela is more serious looking. She’s smart. She’s crafty. She’s a thorn in the boys’ sides.” Once things got rolling, though, Ruby, the nice demon, turned out to be the most interesting, and even believable, character. I still see criticism of Katie Cassidy, but I thought she played the part well.

Bela, once they got into the season, appears to have been a difficult character to integrate into the boys’ world in a nice, organic way. That’s how things go. Often, a show introduces a character, and they have to see how things work, and be prepared to write the character out, if their instincts tell them so. I think, the way they used her to move the season’s story arc along worked. She was a pain in the butt. She sold the boys out, a handful of times. Then, hellhounds took her away. Nice doggies.

Lilith, who must return in season 4 –I guess- hasn’t been much, yet. We knew she was going to be this awesome, ancient, evil that the boys would have great difficulty facing. She came, she killed, she ran away screaming. Season 4 spoilage hasn’t really mentioned her, yet. Of course, she had two big goals: get Dean’s soul, and destroy Sam. She got Dean. Sam, in the final moments of the season, proved to be impervious to her power. Oh well, to an awesome, ancient evil, one out of two ain’t bad?!? I know the strike made it difficult, but we only saw her in two episodes, and, in the second one, Sam made her run away. There was never any real fight between her and the boys. They were no match for her in saving Dean. Sam hasn’t fought her. We just know that she can’t hurt him with her strobe from Hell.

What’s next? Ruby comes back. Lilith will um… I don’t know about Lilith. Maybe she’ll be back to have her butt sent back to where she can’t hurt anyone.

What do you think will happen with Lilith? I’m sure we’ll discuss this much, over the summer. So, let’s get it started.

{democracy:11}

Post from: Supernatural Scoop

Supernatural Recap: 3.15 – Time is on My Side

Supernatural Recaps

3.15

3x15

adam's-first-wife

Bela

bela-talbot

dean's-contract

demon

episode-315

Lilith

recap

supernatural

time-is-on-my-side

Episode 3.15 – Time is on My Side Air Date: 8 May 2008 This is an exciting Supernatural episode with some really good twists. At his car, the doctor is surprised, and thrown into the trunk of his car. He shows up at a hospital, in a robe, struggling to walk to the nurses’ station. A nurse meets him and helps him open the robe. Something falls from his abdomen.

Dean and Sam are torturing a demon with holy water, demanding the name of the demon holding Dean’s contract. The demon tells Dean that he’s not afraid of their holy water. He says it’s like a flea bite compared to what’s coming. He’s only afraid of the demon that holds Dean’s contract. He tells Dean he’ll be waiting in Hell, with a few pals, for when Dean arrives. Sam exorcizes him.

At the motel, Sam is talking on the phone about lab results. The guy in the opening was missing his liver. Bloody fingerprints on the body match a man who died years ago. They consider a possible zombie invasion. Dead guys leaving fingerprints and stealing livers would seem to indicate so.

The medical examiner tells the boys –posing as police- that the liver was not “ripped out”, but was surgically removed. So much for the zombie theory, this is organ theft.

The boys interview a man whose kidney was stolen. He says he woke up, strapped to a table, then felt excruciating pain. He passed out, then awoke in a hotel bathtub full of ice.

Sam says the victims’ were sewed back up with silk, as in the 19th century. They also had maggots in their wounds, much like what was once done, after 19th century surgeries. Dean asks why this sounds familiar. Sam says it’s because their Dad had killed a man named Dr. Benton, when they were kids. Benton was into alchemy, especially living forever. He disappeared in 1816, then people started disappearing. He was harvesting organs for his practice. John Winchester had removed Benton’s heart to kill him. Apparently, he got a new one, somehow. Sam says that Benton works near a stream to dump body parts.

A runner finishes his run. Then, he’s chloroformed from behind. The man wakes, strapped to a table. Benton comes in, and, while the man is watching, he opens his chest and removes the man’s beating heart.

The boys find a group of cabins near water, in the area. Bobby calls Dean with information from his old “friend”, Rufus. Bela is in Canaan, Vermont, looking to buy occult artifacts. He tells Dean to take a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue with him. Dean tells Sam they’re off to Vermont to find Bela. Sam thinks they should stay. He thinks they can use Benton’s techniques to keep Dean alive. They argue. Dean doesn’t want to “welch” on the contract, because Sam will die. Dean leaves Sam there, and takes off for Vermont.

Dean knocks on Rufus’ door. Rufus is belligerent. He is not especially helpful. Then, Dean whips out the scotch, and Rufus invites him in. He tells Dean that Bela came looking to buy a couple of things that will take a while to round up. Rufus warns Dean that, if he gets out of this deal, there’ll just be another one down the road. Rufus gives Dean a folder full of Bela’s records.

Sam scopes out a cabin. He finds Benton’s journal. In the cellar, he finds bodies. One woman, though, is still alive, with maggots eating infected flesh from her arm. She wakes, and panics. Benton returns to the cabin, and looks around, knowing that someone has broken in. Sam helps the woman escape, but Benton catches them at Sam’s rental. Sam drives off, then drives over Benton. When they speed off, Benton rises and straightens his head. His right eye is damaged and bleeding a little.

In Vermont, Bela enters her motel room, where Dean is waiting for her. He asks for the Colt, but she says it’s sold, already, to a Persian, “Speak Farsi?” He looks for the Colt, then confronts her about her killing her parents, and inheriting their millions. We see a flashback of teenage Bela’s father entering her bedroom. She’s crying as he quietly closes the door. To Dean, she covers, though, “They were lovely people.” She shuts her eyes as Dean prepares to shoot her in the forehead. He lowers the weapon, “You’re not worth it.” He leaves, and Bela reveals a receipt for The Erie, where Sam and Dean are staying in Pennsylvania. She calls someone, saying that it worked, and she knows where they are.

As Dean is driving back, Sam tells him on the phone that he has Benton’s journal. He found out how he stays alive, and it’s not magic, just science. Benton nabs Sam. Sam wakes in Benton’s lab. As he’s about to take Sam’s eye out with a melon baller, Dean arrives and shoots Benton. Benton, however, doesn’t appear even slightly injured by the shots. After Benton throws Dean across the room, Dean sticks a knife into his heart. As Benton is gloating about his immortality, Dean shows him that he has his chloroform. He had dipped the knife in it, so it’s going through his body.

Benton wakes. The boys have strapped him to a table. He tries to deal with Dean, saying that he can help him. He can help him not die, so he won’t go to Hell. Dean tells Sam he’d rather go to Hell than be a monster like Benton. Dean chloroforms him again. Benton wakes again, inside a chained shut refrigerator. The boys bury him alive in the fridge.

Bela breaks into the boys’ motel room, and shoots them in their beds. She discovers, though, that the beds are occupied by inflated dolls. The room phone rings, and Bela answers. It’s Dean. He felt her take the receipt from his pocket. He also says he saw the herbs over the door of her room, meant to keep hellhounds out. He tells her he knows that she didn’t kill her parents. She made a deal with a demon, ten years ago today. The demon gave her a chance to get out of it, if she delivered the Colt. She said the demon changed the deal –kill Sam, instead. She tells Dean that the same demon holds all soul contracts, including hers and Dean’s –Lilith. He says this information won’t help her. She says that she knows that Dean can kill Lilith.

After the clock turns over to midnight, we hear dogs howling.

Post from: Supernatural Scoop

Supernatural’s Eric Kripke Answers Fan Questions III

Erik Kripke

Fans

Interviews

adam's-first-wife

adam's-wife

Bela

creator

eclipse-magazine

eric-kripke

Lilith

spoilers

supernatural

writer

Eric Kripke talked to Eclipse Magazine, answering fans’ many great questions. What we saw wasn’t pretty, especially since Kripke and friends pulled the old “pretty but creepy little girl” card, putting Lilith in the form of a sweet-looking lass. Unfortunately for all the boys nice new friends in local and federal law enforcement, the sweet eyes and shiny hair gave way to the hand that makes the whole building go boom.

So, after the Ghost Hunters tribute episode, Ghostfacers, that gives us a little needed breather, we’ll turn headlong into the last three episodes of all Lilith and her fellow evil, all the time. Eric Kripke and Sera Gamble have promised that it’s not going to be pretty. Buffy fans remember seasons four, five, and six, where half of each season was spent fighting the unfightable. That’s what we’re likely to see in Lilith, just only in two or three episodes. Plus, now, they don’t have the Colt. Bela does, and she’s Kripke-knows-where. Of course, Dean will want to find and kill her. Sam, at this point, may or may not wish to stop him –depending on his frame of mind, at the time, especially his libido.

Ruby will be deep in the fight, and some speculate that we don’t really know what happened to Henriksen in the explosion. We only know that the news reported his death. Perhaps he’s gone rogue demon hunter, himself. More likely, though, he’s dead, but don’t put any of my hard earned cash on that.

Speaking of Henriksen, he and the demon horde in Jus in Bello were only the latest of the evils that Bela sent the boys’ way. That and her possession of the Colt, and her siccing Gordon on the boys, were more than enough to justify serious penalties from Sam and Dean, especially Dean.

So, enjoy the next couple of weeks of hard fought for reruns, then we’ll head into the fight.

What do you think will happen with Lilith, Ruby, and Bela? Why am I tempted to joke that they’ll move into a two-story Victorian in San Francisco, and begin saving innocents? Leave a comment and let us know where you think we’re headed in the closing episodes of Supernatural Season Three.

Post from: Supernatural Scoop

Supernatural’s Sera Gamble on Completing Season Three

Bela

Ellen Harvelle

Interviews

Ruby

Sera Gamble

Supernatural Spoilers

Supernatural Writers

3.13

3x13

Fans

ghost-hunters

ghostfacers

hellhound's-lair

hunters

spoilers

supernatural

writer

writers-strike

Firefox News had an email chat with Supernatural’s writer extraordinaire, Sera Gamble. She talks freely about being on strike, and having the chance to write without staying in the bounds of wide marketability.

Gamble also spills some spoilers for the rest of the season, as well as her thoughts on the potential for Season Four. That nagging question about Ruby and Bela, and the fans’ strong feelings about them. There’s even talk about an old semi-hunter friend showing up again, as well as a brand new hunter who shows up toward the end of this season. [I'll spoil a bit more after the break, if you're not squeamish about that.]

Girls, I’ve had loads of questions and comments about those “delicious tattoos”. Well, Ms. Gamble spills about those, too.

Episode 3.14

In the next episode, they steer clear –more or less- of the mythology introduced in Jus in Bello. It’s a bit of emotional relief –comic maybe- involving the Hellhound’s Lair boys from Season One episode Hell House. They show up doing a pilot for a cable show called Ghostfacers, so you can imagine the pseudo-documentary mayhem that will ensue. Sera Gamble says it will be “an entertaining episode.” Plus, it gives us –and them- a little emotional break before it gets too close to the big day for Dean, as his year comes to a close.

Miss Gamble also explains the crazy writing credits for Dream A Little Dream of Me, in that Cathryn Humphris completed the story that Sera Gamble began. Eric Kripke pulled her in to the writing of Jus in Bello.

Also appearing in Sera Gamble’s spoilage:

Lilith

Agent Henriksen

The Tattoos! In the reflection in her window, she spots Gordon Walker sneaking up behind her. He knows who she is, but she doesn’t know his face. When he tells her his name, she has heard of him, and that he was in prison. She reaches into her car, but he reveals her pistol that he is holding. He tells her that he knows she was in Massachussetts with Sam and Dean, and wants to know where they are. She denies knowing, so he draws his pistol. She asks what the fuss is about. He tells her that Sam’s the anti-christ. She smarts off, comparing that belief to belief in the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy. She says she doesn’t respond to threats, but offers to tell him for money. Gordon offers $3,000, which she scoffs at. Then she offers to do it for the relic on his belt. He gives it to her, and she immediately calls Dean, asking where he is.

Dean and Sam come upon a man lying on the ground with massive trauma to his neck and a puddle of blood. Dean asks where “she” went, and goes looking for the vampire. In a warehouse, he cuts his forearm with a machete to draw her out with his blood. Lucy (Mercedes McNab, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel) comes out from hiding. Dean taunts her to come at him. When she bites him, he puts a syringe into her neck, and she falls unconscious. Sam rushes in, “Cutting it a little close.”

Sam and Dean stand over Lucy, as she sits tied up, asleep on the floor. She awakens and they begin interrogating her. She says she took something, but doesn’t know what it was, and can’t come down. She says a guy was buying her drinks in a club called “Spider”. The man, Dixon, said he was a dealer and had something better than anything she’d ever tried. He put a few drops in her drink. Dean asks if it was red and thick, knowing that Dixon had given her vampire blood. He had her in his house, but she broke out, because she was so hungry. She complains of hearing other people’s blood pumping and their hearts beating, half a block away. Dean tells her she’s killed two, and almost a third. She doesn’t believe it. She thinks she’s just just been hallucinating, because of the drug. Sam and Dean talk in the other room. Sam feels sorry for her, and Dean seems only vaguely sympathetic, but knows he has to kill her. He goes in with the machete, and we hear him chop off her head.

Gordon and Kubrick pose as FBI agents, asking about his attacker. They tell him they would have had to kill him if her blood had gotten into his mouth or into an open wound, because Lucy’s has a terrible virus. Gordon asks the man about the two men that chased her away, confirming that it was the Winchesters.

Outside Spider, Sam and Dean spot a likely “Dixon” escorting a young woman into the alley. Dixon prepares to give her an eyedropper full of vampire blood, when Dean knocks it out of his hand. Dean beats the vampire, but Dixon gets away. As they run after him, they come upon Gordon and Kubrick, who open fire on the boys, and the boys take cover. Dean tells Sam to run while he draws them off. Sam heads away, as Dean runs more into the open. Kubrick takes off after Dean. Gordon approaches their hiding place slowly, expecting to find Sam. As Gordon reaches Sam’s hiding place and begins looking around for him, he’s suddenly attacked from above by… Dixon.

When Dean arrives at the hotel, Sam expresses his anger for being so reckless. He asks Dean how Gordon knew where they were. Dean: That bitch! He pulls out his wireless and calls Bela. She boldly tells him that Gordon Walker paid her to tell him where they were. She said she fully intended to call and warn them about the raging psychopath, but was a bit sidetracked. She casually rolls her eyes and shakes her head as if he’s being a drama queen about this one guy coming after the two of them. She’s taken aback when he tells her there were two of them. She looks very distressed when Dean threatens to kill her, first thing after they survive this.

Gordon wakes, tied up to a padless cot. Two women are shackled in the warehouse with him. Dixon enters, giving the women blood to drink, telling them that they’ll feel much better soon. He sees Gordon awake. Confronted by Gordon, Dixon says they’re a dying breed, which he knows already. He says he’s just trying to rebuild, since his family, including his daughter, was murdered by bloodthirsty vampire hunters. Gordon keeps taunting Dixon with sarcasm and referring to vampires as mindless animals. Dixon changes his plans, deciding not to feed Gordon to his new daughters. Instead, Dixon slits Gordon’s and his own forearm, mixing their blood to turn him into a vampire. Gordon screams, “No-o-o-o-o!”

Dean and Sam are cleaning and sharpening their weapons. Sam mentions the vampire being out there. Dean says, “First things first.” Dean is surprised when Sam says their only option is to kill Gordon. He says Gordon won’t stop until they’re dead… or until he is.

Dean’s phone rings. Bela offers information to help keep Dean from killing her. Of course, she still speaks with strong bravado. She has used a “talking board” to contact the other side. She tells them of the warehouse at the riverfront. The spirit also warned them to leave town and not to go after Gordon.

Gordon wakes again, this time shackled from above just like the women. The sunlight entering the room hurts his eyes. He sees the time, and, looking desperate, breaks free. One of the women asks him to help them. When he gets outside, lights and sounds disturb him. He hears a heartbeat, and attacks a man nearby.

Sam and Dean arrive in Dixon’s lair, guns drawn. Dixon is kneeling on the floor, facing his “daughters’” headless bodies. He hears the boys and tells them to go ahead and kill him. On the verge of tears, he tells them that Gordon Walker did this. He says he never should have brought a hunter into his lair with his family. Dixon says they wouldn’t understand, he was desperate. He asks Dean if he knows what it’s like not to care anymore, after losing everything. It’s like being dead already. Dean is visibly affected. Sam notices that the women’s heads weren’t cut off, they were ripped off barehanded. Dean asks Gordon what he did to Gordon.

Kubrick, alone in his trailer, looks out to see what dogs are barking at. He turns to see Gordon in the room. Gordon tells him that they turned him. Gordon says it means Kubrick has to kill him… but not until he kills Sam. He says it’s the one good thing that will come out of what’s happened to him. His new strength and speed will help him. As Gordon faces a crucifix and says he can do one last good thing, Kubrick turns and goes for a machete. Gordon, though hears his heart beating faster, turns and rips Kubrick’s heart out. He embraces Kubrick’s body and apologizes.

Dean walks into the hotel telling Sam that he looked everywhere, and didn’t find him; and the sun is going down soon. Sam disables their cell phones to keep Gordon from using their signals to track them down. Dean tells Sam to stay there, while he prepares a pistol to go after Gordon. Sam is angry that Dean is going on another suicide mission. He tells Dean to drop the joking, and pretending he’s not afraid. He tells Dean that he knows, having looked up to him since he was four, and following him, that this is how Dean acts when he’s terrified. He says he wants Dean to drop the show and be his brother again. Dean agrees to wait it out with Sam.

The boys barricade themselves in, and burn herbs to cover their scent. Dean’s new cell phone rings. [When did he leave and buy a new wireless?] Gordon tracked him by finding his scent in the wireless store. He is at a warehouse, and has a hostage. Gordon gives them 20 minutes to show up before the girl dies. Dean says he doesn’t have to do this; he’s still a hunter. Gordon calmly counters that, now, he’s a monster.

The boys enter the warehouse, guns drawn. They untie the girl, but Gordon is nowhere in sight. Suddenly a door closes, separating Sam from Dean and the girl. The lights go out on Sam. Sam raises his machete. Gordon is taunting him in the darkness. We see through Gordon’s red-tinted thermal vision, that he can see Sam in the darkness. Did I mention that Gordon makes me SO ANGRY?

Gordon: You aren’t human, Sam.
Sam: Look who’s talking.
Gordon: You’re right. I’m a bloodthirsty killer.
Sam: Don’t talk about it like you don’t have a choice.
Gordon: I don’t
Sam: Yes, you do, Gordon.
Sam: You didn’t kill that girl.
Gordon: No, I didn’t. I did something much, much worse.

Dean is beating at the door, when the girl, her fangs showing, goes after Dean. Dean shoots her in the head, killing her.

Gordon challenges Sam, saying they’re both evil, but he’s going to do two last good things: kill Sam, then kill himself. He jumps at Sam, and they crash through the wall. He throws Sam. Dean comes at Gordon with the Colt. Gordon throws Dean against the wall and bites him. Sam attacks Gordon, but Gordon turns, getting in a few hard blows. Gordon throws Sam against a workbench, where Sam chops at something with an ax. After Gordon throws him again, Sam turns around putting a length of cable around Gordon’s neck. Sam tightens the wire until it severs Gordon’s head.

Dean, holding his neck wound, chides Sam for charging a super-vamped up Gordon without a weapon, saying how it was a little reckless.

Dean is fixing the Impala. He quizzes Sam on the engine parts. Sam asks why, and Dean says he’s going to need to know these things, and offers him the socket wrench. Sam is taken back, commenting that he barely even lets him drive it. Sam takes the wrench to the engine.

Anyone else notice that the Impala is only in the last, touching, brother moment scene? They never do that. It usually is in the first of second scene of Act I. Profound? Interesting? Stupid? Clever? Cheap device? Let’s hear what you think about that.

Post from: Supernatural Scoop

Supernatural Recap: Episode 3.06 Red Sky at Morning

Supernatural Recaps

3.06

3x06

Bela

bela-talbot

Dean Winchester

episode

Jared Padalecki

Jensen Ackles

Lauren Cohan

recap

red-sky-at-morning

Sam Winchester

spoiler

supernatural

synopsis

Supernatural 3.06 Red Sky at Morning Original Air Date: November 8, 2007 A young woman, Sheila, is running. She stops, and sees a three-mast clipper off the shore. It disappears suddenly, and she turns around and runs back the way she came.

Sheila is showering. Suddenly, a silhouette appears outside the shower door. The man puts his hand against the shower door glass. He appears in the shower and reaches around her from behind. She collapses, dragging her hand down the shower stall door.

In the Impala, Dean is questioning Sam about the bullet missing from the Colt. [He, of course, had unloaded one of them in Episode 3.05.] Dean confronts Sam about going after the Crossroads demon on his own, and for shooting her. Sam tells Dean about the other who holds the actual contract on Dean’s soul.

Sam and Dean, posing as police detectives, visit Gert, Sheila’s aunt. When they ask about Sheila’s “drowning”, she says that’s what the coroner had said. She realizes that they must be working with someone named Alex. Dean ad libs a “yes” with a little extra personal affirmation. She tells them that Sheila had mentioned seeing a boat that disappeared before her eyes, asking if it could be a ghost ship. She says Alex believes it’s a ghost ship.

Walking down the street, Dean teases Sam about his “girlfriend”, and they discuss who “Alex” might be –another player in town. Sam tells him of stories of sightings of a vanishing three-mast clipper in the bay, and mysterious, dry land drownings, that occur every 37 years. Sam mentions worldwide ghost ship sightings, almost all of which are death omens. As for IDing the ship, there have been over 150 clipper wrecks off the coast.

At the street, the Impala is missing. Dean freaks out, when, suddenly, Bela appears, claiming to have had the car towed. Sam realizes that she’s “Alex”. She says she sells lots of trinkets to the scores of old women like Gert, up and down the eastern seaboard. She “thanks” them for letting Gert know that the case wasn’t solved –now, Bela’s forced to find real answers for the woman, before she’ll pay her. She excuses herself, telling them they must hurry to their car, before their arsenal in the trunk is discovered.

In a nice residence, the spirit appears in the bathroom of a man brushing his teeth. He turns to discover his bath is very full, and a bit dark. As he pulls the plug without effect, a hand reaches from the water and grabs his throat. The scene ends, leaving us to believe that he’s dead.

Bela, posing as a reporter, is interviewing Peter Warren, the man in the bathroom’s brother. The boys arrive and chase her off. The man tells them the ship his brother saw resembled an old Yankee Clipper, a smuggling ship, rakish topsail, angel figure on the bow. When asked about the amount of detail, he explains that they were night diving, and that he saw it, as well. Bela is in the distance, pointing out the boys to a couple of patrolmen.

The boys are loading shotguns in preparation. Bela shows up and challenges them. Scoffing at their plan to save Mr. Warren, since he saw the ship, he claims he can’t be saved. She plans to find the ship to put an end to the killings. Dean asks how she got so jaded, quipping about whether her “daddy” hadn’t hugged her enough. She counters by asking if their daddy had. She challenges Dean’s looking down on her, and his claim that they help people. She says they’re actually in it for vengeance and obsession’s sake; “a stone’s throw from being a serial killer.”

The boys sit in the Impala in front of Peter Warren’s house. Sam recounts his uncovered facts about the Warren brothers: Duke University grads, no criminal records. They inherited their father’s real estate fortune, $112M, six years before. Sam wonders what they had in common with Sheila. Dean thinks it’s maybe nothing. Peter Warren comes out, yelling at the boys, asking if they’re watching him. He is incredulous of their claim that he’s in danger. He gets in his car and starts to drive off, but the car stalls, as if “flooded”. The boys know it’s bad, and run for the salt guns. The spirit is in the car and touches the man. Suddenly, he begins choking up large amounts of water, and slumps over the steering wheel. Dean and Sam rush over, and Dean shoots the salt at the spirit. He reaches in the now broken passenger window, and unlocks the car. Sam opens the driver door and checks on Peter, but he’s dead.

The radio in the Impala airs a report of stormy weather heading to shore. Sam is brooding, and Dean challenges his worry about saving “everybody”. Sam says he feels like, lately, he can’t save anybody

The boys are sitting in their hideout. Bela shows up, well dressed, insulting the “charm” of the house they’re squatting in. She asks how things went with Peter. They’re not amused. She tells them about the ship –the Espirito Santo, a merchant sailing vessel. In 1859, a sailor was hanged for treason. He was 37. She shows them photos. Dean recognizes the face of the spirit they encountered, the night before, but the spirit was missing his right hand. She knew about the hand, because the sailor’s body was cremated, but his right hand was cut off first, and used in a Hand of Glory ritual; apparently, a powerfully magical occult object. She says to find the hand and burn it, and knows where it is. It’s in the local museum, as a macabre bit of Maritime History.

Bela is in the hideout, calling out for Dean, saying Sam is already there with his date. Dean comes down, dressed in a tuxedo –Bond; James Bond, anyone? Her breath taken away, she says they should have angry sex, when the deal is over. He looks uncomfortable, tells her not to objectify him, and they take off.

At the Sea Pines Maritime Museum, Bela and Dean arrive, then Gert and Sam arrive. [Bela had just said that they were already there.] Gert is still exceedingly flirty with him. Sam excuses himself, and confronts Dean about how long he has to entertain her. Dean explains that they needed her invitation to crash the affair. Sam says they have always been able to crash anything. Dean admits that he finds it far more entertaining to be there on Gert’s invitation, than to have come in their usual way. Dean, of course, teases Sam about his “date”. When Sam returns, Gert is giddy at watching Sam slam down his Champagne.

Dean and Bela scope out possible ways to get to the hand, which is upstairs, and the party is heavily guarded. Bela “faints”, drawing a security guard over. Dean asks for a place to lay her down. The security guard escorts them upstairs, and leaves them alone in an office.

Bela sits up, and Dean complains about her not alerting him to her impromptu plan. She returns that she didn’t want him thinking, “You’re not very good at that.” He’s caught flat-footed, and she chides him for his failed attampt at finding a “witty rejoinder”. Bela tells Dean to go to room 235, and look for a locked, glass case with an alarm.

Sam and Gert are dancing. She is stroking his back and squeezing his butt. She says he reminds her of her late husband; he was shy, too.

Dean finds the hand atop a locked pillar display. He picks the lock.

Bela, looking around the office, is drawn to a small ship in a bottle. The guard knocks on the door. Bela answers and requests a few more minutes, implying that something “interesting” is going on. The guard meets Dean at the top of the stairs, and assures him that his wife is being looked after. [wink. wink.].

Bela asks for the hand, but Dean insists on taking care of it himself, wrapping it up in his handkerchief. He claims not to need her “kind of help.” Bela smiles devilishly.

Dancing, Gert asks Sam if Sheila’s death was in any way related to the Warren brothers’ deaths. She says she thinks the Warrens had it coming. She tells Sam that the Warner brothers were rumored to have killed their father. He asks about Sheila having any tragedy. Sheila had a car accident in her teens. Her cousin Brian was killed. She asks if that’s important. Dean and Bela arrive on the dance floor. Bela excuses herself with Gert, saying she’ll meet them at the cemetary.

Sam and Dean get in the Impala. Dean pulls out his handkerchief, but finds the ship in the bottle, not the hand. They, of course, express their anger and dismay.

Bela, in her car looking at a wad of cash that she obviously must have acquired illicitly, sees the clipper ship appear and disappear in the bay.

At the house, Dean is fuming about Bela. Sam is trying to calm him. Bela shows up. She has sold the hand, and it’s already halfway across the ocean. So, they were just her cover at the ball. She tells them about having seen the ship.

Sam tells what they figured out about the spirit. The Captain of the ship was the spirit’s brother, so the spirit is after people who were responsible for a family member’s death, even if an accident. Dean isn’t sympathetic about her fate. She asks for their help. Dean asks why she would ask a pair of serial killers. Bela won’t spill about what she did to open her up to the spirit. Sam says the hand may not have been the only way to save her life.

In the cemetary, under the full moon, Sam is lighting candles on a pentagram. Dean is waiting with the salt-shotgun. Sam begins reading a Latin text, apparently invoking something.

Rain and wind stir up. The spirit arrives, and throws Dean out of the say. The spirit touches Bela, and she begins choking up water. Suddenly, her choking stops, the rain settles down. The spirit’s brother is there, apologizing for hanging him. The apirit thrusts his hand into his brother’s chest, and in a slow motions splash of water, they both disappear. Sam, Dean, and Bela look in disbelief. I guess his apology was NOT accepted, but now he has what he really wanted.

At the house, Sam and Dean are packing up. Bela walks in, and tells Sam she’s impressed by his giving the spirit what he wanted. She pays them $10,000 in wads of cash. Dean ridicules her for finding it easier to pay them than a simple thank-you, saying she is so damaged. She argues it takes one to know one. She exits.

The boys are in the Impala, off to Atlantic City. Dean says he understands why Sam went after the Crossroads demon. He says he would do the same thing in his position. He says he’ll live his life, and move on. Sam explodes, saying that he doesn’t want an apology. He doesn’t want Dean to worry about him. He wants Dean to worry about Dean.

All Dean has to say, “I think maybe I’ll play craps.” Sam huffs.

Post from: Supernatural Scoop

Supernatural and Smallville: The CW’s Girls of Thursday Night Promo

Bela

CW

Erik Kripke

Fans

Katie Cassidy

Lauren Cohan

Ruby

Video Clips

adrianne-palicki

kara

promo

smallville

supernatural

This week, The CW started a new promo “The Girls of Thursday Night”. Supernatural’s Bela (Lauren Cohan) and Ruby (Katie Cassidy) get plenty of coverage, as well as Smallville’s Kara (Laura Vandervoort). Smallville’s already existing cast members get quick flashes, so, obviously, they’re promoting the new blood on these shows. Are they, however, doing it in a way that best represents either show, particularly Supernatural.

Is this the exploitation that Supernatural fans feared back in July? Is this the Bela- and Ruby- mania that we loathe to see happen to the show?

Reeling in new viewers by appealing to the lowest common denominator is definitely not pretty, and can lead to creative decisions to keep the new demographic. I hope it was a move made by the network without the open approval of Erik Kripke. I can only conjecture on people involved, and the chain of events, of course. I can easily imagine, though, marketing seeing the clip of Bela and the sleeping naked in piles of money bit, and seeing the possibilities. Having already seen that scene, I didn’t think it so low-brow, given its context.

One could argue that Dean’s resignation, and devolution to demon-hunting Caligula, could be a bone for the base, in the interest of padding the audience with good demographic for advertisers with deep pockets. I don’t think, as of yet anyway, that they’ve really stepped into that abyss with the story.

Clearly, this is a show that many of us would love to see for more than three seasons. Increasing the audience size is necessary to keep its chips away from the programming department’s trash bin. I prefer the methods of Supernatural Underground, who have put money, time, and effort into increasing awareness of the show.

At any rate, I’m not ready to grab a torch and head for The CW promotions unit. I’ll keep watching the show, and let this one go. The promo itself isn’t bad, even though it did give me pause. I won’t start the real worrying until they make a habit of it, and the story lines begin to follow suit.

What do you think about this promo? Are you bristling from it? Do you hope it’s a one-time mistake? Did you think it wasn’t so bad?

Post from: Supernatural Scoop
