]]> Just 27 seconds ago –more or less- the Directors Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers tentatively agreed to a three year contract. The agreement, covering the same sorts of issues that have caused the Writers Guild of America strike, including royalties for internet revenues, is groundbreaking. Also, as contracts go in Hollywood, this should herald a similar agreement between the AMPTP and the WGA.

La-La Land generally practices “pattern bargaining”, meaning that, once one class of creative types signs a contract with moguls, it sets a precedent to aid in negotiations between other creative guilds. This leads to similar rate patterns for subsequent agreements.

That said, let’s hope this will be over soon. Movie and TV lovers, we, may have suffered a bit mentally. Imagine the issues faced by those whose tables were a bit harder to fill, as studios went dark. This includes various lesser known writers all the way to all manner of crew personnel.
